Be alert to the conditions of the weather. Slow down if it is rainy or icy. You may not know that the pavement is compromised and landing on an ice patch can cause you to skid. If you do, turn the wheels in the direction of the skid until you straighten up.
Increase the distance between you and the car in front of you.
Use low beam headlights during a snow storm as high beam tend to reflect light and obstruct the vison of oncoming traffic.
Keep your windows clean inside and out and make sure your wiper blades are new or in good condition for what winter weather brings.
Remember to check your car maintenance for the proper antifreeze level in your radiator, good tire tread and air pressure, and a full gas tank. If traveling long distance to northern areas keep a flashlight, extra snacks, a blanket, and maybe a small shovel in your trunk.
